Auto mechanic working on an engine

The Shop at Clinton Alignment Brake & Muffler Center

Established in 1972, Clinton Alignment Brake & Muffler Center has been a Clinton institution for nearly half a century. Owner Phil Shaw has been working in the trenches at Clinton Alignment since 1980. Even before he graduated from Camanche High in 1982, Phil knew that a life of wrenching was in his blood. By 1995, he managed to buy Clinton Alignment and continue a proud tradition of automotive repair success.

Clinton Alignment Brake & Muffler is all about keeping local vehicles running in tip-top shape. As a community shop with ASE, AMSOIL and NAPA certifications, we're all about commitment to auto repair excellence. Thanks to 34 years of on-the-ground experience, owner and ASE Master Technician Phil can tackle any repair. Whether it's a head gasket replacement or finding an electrical fault, Phil and his crew always solve the problem in short order.

All About the Clinton Alignment, Brake & Muffler Team

Phil and Pam Shaw hit it off in high school when both could only dream of owning a business. While Phil was learning his trade as a mechanic, Pam was earning a degree in Business and Accounting from Mount St. Clare College. Today, Phil handles the auto repair while Pam deals with the books. In the meantime, they've raised twins Matthew and Amanda in the Clinton area where they still reside. At Clinton Alignment Brake & Muffler, our goal is pretty simple. We want to deliver the kind of mechanic services that Clinton locals and visitors alike will always remember. As far as we're concerned, auto repair should be affordable and easy regardless of who you are or where you're from. If you need a mechanic that can fix it right the first time in Clinton, we're the shop you're looking for.

Meet the Owners, Pam and Phil

Our story is a love story.
It's all about a man who loved working on cars and the high school sweetheart who shared his dreams. Phil Shaw began working at Clinton Alignment in 1980. After graduating from high school, Phil continued to advance his skills as a mechanic. Meanwhile, Pam graduated from college with a degree in business administration.

In 1995, their dream came true when they purchased Clinton Alignment from Pam's father, who was the original owner. Phil is the chief technician, and Pam does the accounting. In 2005, their son Matthew joined Clinton Alignment as a mechanic. Pam and Phil are proud of the top-quality auto repair business they have built, their close, lifelong ties to their community, and the quality of care they deliver daily to their customers.

Phil Shaw grew up in Camanche, Iowa, and graduated from Camanche High School in 1982. By then, he already knew he loved working on cars. He’d joined Clinton Alignment in 1980 as a technician, and he’s never left the business! In 1995, he bought the shop, once owned by his father-in-law, Doug Hewer, who also gave him the nickname “Phriendly Phil.”

Phil and Pam were high school sweethearts. They married in 1985, the same year Pam graduated from Mt. St. Clare College with a degree in Business and Accounting. (At the shop, Pam performs all of the accounting services.) Phil and Pam are blessed with twins, Matthew and Amanda. Pam often refers to Phil as the “Last Boy Scout.”

Matt followed in his father’s footsteps, showing signs of a love for auto repair at an early age. He joined Clinton Alignment in 2005, and we have to say, for a young technician, he has a wealth of knowledge. Matt is extensively trained and dedicated to learning everything about vehicle repair. A lifelong Clinton area resident, he currently resides in Clinton with his wife, Megan.
